“Populating and Feeling Our Universe” will be the topic of our June Science Pub. Dr. Steve Kilston will present scientific ideas that may enable us to more fully tune in to and identify with our universe in all its reality and potential, intensifying our feelings of connection, unity, and purpose. The talk will begin with an astronomical perspective on how our universe came to be populated, with stars making possible what and where humans are. Next, Dr. Kilston will describe how science helps us choose actions compatible with our universe’s rules, the laws of nature we recognize as truths, key to survival of any civilization. The presentation will then explore how we have learned about other worlds beyond Earth, and can use that knowledge to design and plan eventual travel to some of those worlds. This includes a plausible interstellar spaceship concept offering one way to extend life across our galaxy.
The CFWWC hosts a family-friendly monthly public meeting series called the Coast Fork Science Pub on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5-7pm at the Axe & Fiddle, 657 E. Main Street in Cottage Grove. The event begins with informal socializing, trivia, and updates about the watershed and watershed council during the first hour. The Science Pub presentation begins at 6pm. CFWWC receives 10% of all sales from the evening between 5-7:30pm. The event is free to the public, with a $5 donation suggested.
