SUMMARY:Coast Fork Birders - Upcoming Walks and Events
DESCRIPTION:Mark your 2026 calendars for great birding in the New Year!\nYo
u are invited to join the Coast Fork for 2 great birding events in January
.\nCottage Grove Christmas Bird Count\nJoin the Coast Fork Birders in the
Cottage Grove Christmas Bird Count! All levels of bird enthusiasts are enc
ouraged to take part in this opportunity to contribute to a great citizen
science effort while learning bird identification from experienced birders
. This event is coordinated by Grace Fowler-Gore and each count section wi
ll be led by a Coast Fork Birders member.\n\nWhen: Saturday\, January 3rd\
n6:30am at the Vintage Inn Restaurant\n\nParticipants will gather at 6:30a
 m at the Vintage Inn Restaurant\, 1590 Gateway Blvd\, Cottage Grove\, for
a morning breakfast meeting to organize into teams. (The morning gathering
and the countdown dinner are totally optional!)\n\nBirders will head into
the field by 7:30am - You must contact Coast Fork Birders before the actu
al count day.  Participants have to be assigned to their own areas to cov
er.\n\nThe end of day “countdown” will take place at 4pm at El Tapatio
  Mexican Restaurant &amp\; Cantina\, 725 E. Gibbs Ave.\, Cottage Grove. (A
gain\, totally optional!)\n\nBe sure to bring your birding gear\, weather
appropriate clothing and lunch to get you through the day.\n\nYou also do
not have to bird ALL day long. Some individuals have lots of enthusiasm an
d physical endurance to start before the sun comes up and bird after it go
es down. If you only have enough time to bird for 3 to 4 hours\, you can b
e assigned to an area accordingly.\n\nAlso: You might have physical limita
tions and can't stand being cold. If you only wish to bird from your car\,
they have an appropriate area you can be assigned to. The same is true of
you need accommodations for a walker\, cane or wheelchair.\n\nTo particip
ate:\n\nPlease contact Grace by email GraceLovesBirds1@gmail.com (please p
rovide a contact telephone within your email) or 817-975-4936 as soon as p
ossible to optimize placement into a birding sector of your preference. We
have plenty of varied habitats to choose from: two lakes\, river\, creek\
 , farm fields\, forest\, urban\, suburban and rural.\n\nPeople who would l
ike to participate by counting the birds in their own yards are encouraged
to contact Grace as well. "Feeder Counters" are a valuable part of the Ch
ristmas Bird Count data. This way\, you don't have to commit to an entire
day of birding to make a contribution to our Cottage Grove CBC.\n\nAccessi
bility -There are zones and parts of zones that anyone with limited mobili
ty can participate in. Please\, if you want to partake\, then join us!\n\n
Additional clarifications: Using eBird is helpful\, but not required to s
ubmit your birding efforts.  Grace has printouts that you can use to tall
y your birds.\n\nYou feel you don't know the bird names. I can place you w
ith a skilled birder who needs someone to help spot the birds. Maybe you c
an be the designated driver for a group.\n\nThe Audubon Christmas Bird Cou
nt is a wonderful citizen science project which is open to everyone. If yo
u have concerns\, please give me a ring and talk with me about them.\nCG E
 agle Midwinter Count 2026\nWhen: January 18th\, 2026 (Sunday)\n\nWhere: \n
\nDorena Reservoir: Start Time: 9:30 a.m.\nMorning Parking: Park in the Wa
lmart parking lot (close to Outdoor Living)\nCount is predicted to last fr
 om 10 am - 1 pm.\n\nCottage Grove Reservoir: Start Time: 2 p.m.\nAfternoon
Parking: Lakeside Park\nCount is predicted to last until around 4 pm.\n\n
Anyone is welcome. In the past\, we have seen from around 9 eagles at a re
servoir to zero. Usually\, we do see some\, but I like to warn folks that
there is no guarantee. These are wild animals and we can't predict where t
hey will be hanging out. (In the past we have had folks come along who wer
e expecting more of a "safari" experience with close-ups of the eagles). W
e will have some scopes available but if people have their own binoculars\
, they should bring them.\n\n\n\nYou can join us at either one or both dep
ending on your schedule and wishes.  If you want to survey both reservoir
s\, be sure to bring lunch and water (or a hot beverage) for yourself. Dre
ss warmly and be prepared for the weather.  Carpooling will be organized
at the first parking locations for Dorena &amp\; Cottage Grove Reservoirs.
There are restrooms available at some of the parking areas.\n\n\nWe wil
l be recording all species of birds observed into eBird.  Alison Center w
ill continue her decades of leading this eagle count research.\n\n\nAs alw
 ays\, please contact Grace Fowler-Gore at 817-975-4936 or GraceLovesBirds1
 @gmail.com with any questions.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;
